CHROME EXTENSION 0.3.6
Your procedures. Your software.
A reusable skills library.
Connect a knowledge folder once. Ask Alpha to explore an application's navigation, explain it to a beginner, and create a skill you can review and reuse. Chat, Microsoft Office builders, document uploads, checklists and browser assistance remain available.
1. Update your existing extension
- Download and extract version 0.3.6. Close the Alpha side panel first.
- Copy the extracted extension files into the same folder you originally loaded. Keep that folder path to preserve the extension ID and local data. Do not remove the extension.
- Open
chrome://extensions. Find Alpha Copilot and select its reload icon. Check that its version is 0.3.6. The Office Companion uses the native-messaging permission already declared by Alpha. - Reopen Alpha. If needed, use Connect extension on the Copilot page in this same Chrome profile. For a first installation, follow the three setup steps on that page.
Use Alpha Office Studio
- Open Alpha Copilot and select Office.
- Choose Excel Formula, VBA Macro, VBA Dashboard, Office Script, Power Query, Power BI DAX or Model Review.
- Describe the result. For a dashboard, name the source table, columns, KPIs, filters and charts. Add procedures under Knowledge or attach screenshots in Chat when Alpha needs your workbook or model structure.
- Select Build in Alpha Chat. Review the complete code, assumptions, test plan and rollback steps before using it.
- For VBA answers with marked Alpha modules, use Review and apply in Excel. Choose the target workbook, review the risks and procedures, then approve the operation.
Alpha accepts direct-write Standard and Class modules whose names begin Alpha_. Document event modules and visual UserForm designer files remain manual in this preview.
Install Direct Excel Apply
- Download and extract the Windows Office Companion package. Review its README, source and published SHA256. The preview executable is not code-signed.
- In Excel open File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings → Macro Settings, then enable Trust access to the VBA project object model. If an organisation manages this setting, ask its administrator.
- Open
chrome://extensionsoredge://extensions, enable Developer mode and copy Alpha Copilot's 32-letter extension ID. - Double-click Install Alpha Office Companion.cmd in the extracted folder. Do not double-click the PowerShell
.ps1file. Paste the extension ID when requested. - Reload Alpha Copilot. Open the target workbook in desktop Excel and enable macros if Excel asks. Then use Office → Check companion → Choose workbook. Use an
.xlsm,.xlsbor.xlamfile.
Every Apply operation creates a timestamped backup beside the workbook. Alpha replaces only reviewed modules beginning Alpha_, runs only the procedures selected in the preview and returns the backup path and Excel test evidence. It does not open a closed workbook or lower Excel's macro-security settings.
2. Keep a folder connected as knowledge
- Download and extract the Windows folder connector. Read its included README. The executable is currently unsigned; if your organization blocks it, use its software approval process.
- In
chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode and copy Alpha's 32-letter extension ID. - Open PowerShell in the extracted connector folder, run
.\Install-AlphaConnector.ps1, and paste the extension ID when prompted. It installs for your Windows user; no administrator account, Python or API key is needed. - In the Alpha side panel, open Knowledge → Connect folder. Choose the folder containing your KT, DTP, SOP, policies or checklists.
- Wait for the indexed-file count. Ask a question such as “What does our invoice SOP require before approval? Cite the source.” Alpha retrieves matching passages and includes source references.
- Edit or add a procedure in that same folder. Alpha refreshes every minute while its panel is open and idle, and before a knowledge-backed question. Use Refresh for an immediate check.
The path is remembered after restarting Chrome. Indexing resumes when the panel reopens; it does not run while Chrome is closed. Keep network drives available and cloud files downloaded locally. Disconnect folder revokes the saved connection and removes its indexed text.
Supported: text-readable PDF, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, TXT, Markdown, CSV, TSV, JSON and HTML. Limits: 25 MB per file, 1,000 files, 100 MB of changed files per refresh. Subfolders are included; linked folders are excluded. Images, scanned PDFs without text, legacy DOC/XLS, password-protected files and handwriting need conversion or OCR first. Refresh notices identify files needing attention.
Original files are read only. Indexed text and skills stay in this Chrome profile. Relevant passages and observed page excerpts go to Alpha's AI provider when used in a question or exploration. Review your sources and exports for confidential content.
3. Let Alpha explore and build an application skill
- Sign in yourself to the cloud application, such as your QuickBooks or Oracle Fusion tenant. Open the area you want Alpha to learn.
- Open Alpha → Skills → New skill. Enter the job name, application, website, your role and the current interface/version.
- Describe a focused goal, for example: “Find where an accountant reviews an existing supplier bill. Explain the navigation and fields to a beginner. Do not create, edit, approve or pay a bill.”
- Choose Explore and build skills. Grant website access if Chrome requests it. Alpha observes pages, follows navigation in the selected application and saves draft instructions with page references and visible evidence. You do not need to record a demonstration first.
- Press Stop whenever needed. Return to Skills to read the saved steps: instruction, screen, explanation, expected result and source. Correct, reorder or remove steps. Add any missing business rules from your own procedures.
- Select Approve reviewed skill once the instructions and checks fit your role and environment.
Learning avoids form entry and business submissions. If a menu is ambiguous or inaccessible, Alpha should ask for help. Optional demonstration recording can add the navigation labels you click. A visited page supports a navigation instruction; it does not prove a transaction completed.
4. Teach, assist and share
| Control | What happens |
|---|---|
| Guide me as a beginner | Explains the approved steps and what to check, using relevant folder knowledge. You perform the actions. |
| Assist with this job | Uses the existing browser agent to inspect the current page and assist with the approved job. It uses fresh page controls and retains confirmations for consequential actions. |
| Export skill package | Downloads SKILL.md, navigation.json and checklist.csv. Review the content before sharing with another agent. |
| Import navigation.json | Adds another package as a draft for review in your environment. Importing knowledge does not grant application access. |
Try the Chrome starter knowledge pack
The downloadable sample explains six everyday Chrome tasks on Windows: open a tab, enter a website, move between tabs, search a page, bookmark a page and inspect downloads. It is based on Google's official Chrome shortcut documentation, checked 9 October 2026. It is a documentation-based guide, not a claim that Alpha operated Chrome's own controls.
- Extract Chrome starter skills. Put its
SKILL.mdin your connected knowledge folder and select Refresh. - Ask “Teach me how to find a word on a page in Chrome. Give me the steps and expected result.”
- Alternatively, import its
navigation.jsonunder Skills, review it and use Guide me as a beginner. These browser-interface tasks are performed by you.
Chrome blocks extensions from inspecting chrome:// pages, its toolbar and settings menus. Alpha can map accessible website interfaces and learn from official web documentation; it cannot autonomously map every desktop or browser control. Some frames, canvas-based interfaces and role-restricted screens also need human help.
If a job pauses or a folder is unavailable
- AI timeout: the panel reports the failure. Previously saved skill steps remain available. Open the skill and select Explore again to continue with a fresh inspection; check the current page before repeating a business action.
- Connector not found: check the installed extension ID and run the installer for that same ID. Reopen the panel. The connector package currently targets Windows Chrome.
- Drive unavailable or document changed: reconnect the drive and Refresh. Failed folder refreshes exclude that folder's cached passages from the answer. Parsing failures exclude the affected stale document.
- Wrong menu or role: revise the skill and reapprove it. A saved path is a reference, not proof that a later interface remains identical.
Automated checks cover folder isolation, refreshes, changed/deleted files, traversal protection, native-message framing, learning controls and interrupted streams. The UI flow was tested with simulated Chrome and AI services. Real native installation and individual QuickBooks/Oracle workflows still require validation in your environment. This release does not claim parity with other commercial browser agents.
